Vasilis Bisbikis is an actor and theatre director. Since making his stage debut in 2008, he has performed leading roles in productions of works by Euripides, Aeschylus, Tennessee Williams, Federico García Lorca, August Strindberg, Samuel Beckett, Ödön von Horváth, Jean Giraudoux, Terence McNally, and many other playwrights. He has appeared at the Ancient Theatre of Epidaurus, the National Theatre of Greece, the National Theatre of Northern Greece, and numerous independent theatre venues, collaborating with some of Greece’s most distinguished directors.
Since 2013, together with actress Faye Tzima, he has co-managed the Cartel Theatre (Technχώρος Cartel), an independent theatre venue in Athens. At Cartel, he has directed productions of plays by August Strindberg, Sławomir Mrożek, Mark Ravenhill, John Steinbeck, and other playwrights.
His production of Of Mice and Men, presented during the 2018–19 and 2019–20 seasons, received the Best Production Award and the Best Director Award at the 2019 Athinorama Audience Theatre Awards. It also won the Best Production Award, Best Director Award, and the Best Production Award (voted by cultural websites) at the 2019 All4fun Audience Theatre Awards.
For his direction of Strindberg’s The Father, presented at Apothiki Theatre during the 2019–20 season, he received the Third Best Director Award at the 2020 Athinorama Audience Theatre Awards. The production also received the Second Best Production Award, the Best Actor Award, and the Third Best Actress Award.
In cinema, he has appeared in the feature films The City of Children, directed by Giorgos Gikapeppas, and The Ballad of the Hole in the Heart, directed by Yannis Oikonomides, as well as in numerous short films. He has also appeared in several television series, including The Word You Don’t Say, Wild Bees, Commandos and Dragons, and others.
